How We Grow:

Our Use of pesticides:

Chubby Bunny Farm is dedicated to growing in an organic and holisitic manner.  We utilize crop rotation and benecifical insects to reduce pesticide use, and while it will not be possible to be completely pesticide free, we time our chemical use to be as effective as possible.  We only use a pyrethrin (a derivative of the chrysanthemum flower) with an effective period or only 12 hours.  Products sprayed in the morning will become safe for humans and insects by the evening.

Pollination:

Agriculture would not exist if not for the hard working pollinators of the world.  In hedgerows and under trees we endeavor to create year long food and habitat for our pollinators to ensure a heathy ecological system.  We feature Sweet Alyssum,  Sunflowers, and a variety of the Asteracease (or daisy) family to feed these hard working members of the farm.

Fertility Management:

To grow delicious crops, we need plenty of fertility to feed our soil.  Rather than rely on chemical agents, we use a combination of manure from our own and local livestock, composted vegetation, and a certified organic fermented liquid fertilizers to support our plants.   The long term goal for the farm is to increase organic matter, reduce erosion of nutrients, and promote a soil that provides our crops the fertility they need to grow well.
